uring the next few years, developments in AP® courses and exams in world languages, history and science will bring profound benefits to students, teachers and other members of the AP community. This work is currently focused on revising the 2011–12 courses and exams in AP French Language and Culture, AP German Language and Culture, and AP World History in ways that will facilitate AP teachers’ efforts to equip students with the knowledge and skills they will need for future college success. Enhancements are also under way in AP science courses and exams. This site is designed to provide you with all the information you need to understand and prepare for these changes.

The revised AP French Language and Culture and the AP German Language and Culture courses reflect current standards of language learning and best teaching practices. Recognizing the complex, interrelated
nature of language and culture, the courses develop students’ proficiency within a thematic approach.


Because world history’s scope requires students to think on many different geographic and temporal levels, it is imperative that a college-level course prepare students to explore broad trends and global processes that may have developed over centuries, or even millennia, in various regions of the world.


Given the speed with which scientific discoveries and research continuously expand scientific knowledge, many educators are faced with the challenge of balancing breadth of content coverage with depth of understanding. To support AP teachers in their work to foster students’ deep conceptual understanding of science, AP science courses and exams are undergoing a revision.

AP teachers and students have much to celebrate, having fostered a level of teaching and learning that provides tremendous benefits for an increasingly diverse population of students worldwide. International comparisons show that AP students are competitive with the best students around the world; they outperform their peers in subsequent college
course work and are, accordingly, highly desired by college admission officers.
