Developments in AP
®
French Language and Culture, AP  German Language and Culture, and AP  World History

This is an exciting time to be involved in the AP® Program. The developments under way in AP world languages, history and science directly support AP teachers’ ongoing efforts to develop and deliver great courses that align with the most effective teaching and learning at colleges and universities. Organizing courses in ways that are consistent with the current best practices in teaching and
learning — work that many AP teachers are already doing — will ensure that students are well equipped to retain and apply the knowledge and skills needed for success in college. Moreover, these developments will continue to support the use of AP courses and exams by colleges and universities in their credit, placement and admission decisions.

The changes detailed on this site for AP French Language and Culture, AP German Language and Culture, and AP World History will go into effect in the 2011–12 school year, with the corresponding AP Exams administered in May 2012.

The revisions followed these overall guidelines:

  • AP curricula should draw on current scholarship in the disciplines, including learning theory and assessment design.
  • The connection between the AP course and the corresponding exam should be
    clearly articulated.
  • Revisions should support and maintain the continued validity of AP in preparing students for successful placement into higher-level college and university courses.
  • Revisions should foster improved achievement in AP courses for a broad and diverse range
    of students.

This site is dedicated to providing educators with all the information you will need to incorporate these changes into your work. It will be updated regularly as details and support materials become available. Please consider this site your primary resource for information regarding updates to these AP courses, and be sure to sign up to receive e-mail notifications when new information is posted.
