Principals, District Officials and Other Administrators

You should have recently received an e-mail announcing upcoming changes to AP® French Language and Culture, AP German Language and Culture, and AP World History. An e-mail has also been sent to all authorized teachers of those subjects directing them to this website for more information about the changes and the actions they need to take.

This site is dedicated to helping you support your teachers as they process and understand developments in specific AP courses. Of special interest to school and district leaders are:

  • The revised course curricula are located on the subject-specific pages. This documentation details the organization of the course content and articulates the knowledge and skills that will be assessed on the AP Exam.
  • Visit the timeline to learn when additional course and exam information will be available and what actions you or your teachers need to take and when.
  • We do not anticipate that changes will require purchasing new textbooks. Rather, teachers will need to consider shifting the focus of instruction to a conceptual understanding of the requisite course content.
  • Teachers will be required to participate in some form of the course audit to ensure that all AP students have the benefit of a teacher deeply familiar with the changes. However, the College Board is considering what the audit requirements and process will be, given that some teachers have already incorporated many of these changes into their current courses.
  • A schedule of available professional development opportunities is included on the timeline. This plan includes a number of free online events for all teachers and administrators that will acquaint them with the revised courses.
  • We suggest that principals and other administrators review the changes in the curricula and consider what supplemental professional development, if any, your teachers may need. Other supplemental professional development opportunities will be available to meet AP teachers’ specific needs.
  • Recently revised AP Vertical Teams Guides and workshops, designed with future AP courses in mind, are available to help you align curricula from middle school through the AP year, so that you can prepare your students for success long before they enroll in AP classes. Visit the College Board’s online store or the Professional Development area of our website for details.
  • The AP Program is in the process of developing exams for AP World History, AP German Language, and Culture and AP French Language and Culture that correspond to the revised curricula. During the next two years, the AP Program will provide additional detail about the changes to the exams. Available information about the planned changes to the exams is available on the subject-specific pages.
  • Questions that are not addressed on this site may be directed to the AP Program
